North Shore has immediate opportunities for an Intermediate Biologist/Wetland Ecologist based out of either our Calgary, Sherwood Park, or Grande Prairie offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete desktop wetland identification, classification, and delineations utilizing aerial imagery and GIS software
- Complete field assessments to support biophysical assessment projects with an emphasis on wetlands, vegetation, and soils
- Prepare and review reports including the development of wetland avoidance and mitigation strategies to support client projects
- Exposure to Project Management duties including stakeholder engagement and communication, scope development, cost estimating, budgeting, and final deliverables
- Provide assistance to senior staff and train junior staff, as required
- Implement corporate and client safety programs
Qualifications
- Must possess a post-secondary degree in biological sciences (or related discipline)
- Must be considered a qualified wetland practitioner as directed under the Alberta Wetland Policy that holds an authenticating professional designation (P. Biol, P. Ag., etc.)
- Possess 5-10 years of related wetland experience
- Advanced working knowledge of industry standard reporting tools (Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS), AER Onestop, etc.)
- Proven experience with wetland reporting required under the Water Act (WAIF, WAIR, etc.)
- Willingness to travel and work in remote locations for extended periods of time
- Excellent communication, writing, and problem solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and database entry
- Valid driver’s license
- Good physical health and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Willingness to work within a team environment
- Highly organized and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in pre-disturbance construction project planning and permitting. Experience in reclamation and closure activities would also be considered an asset. Compensation will be based upon the candidate’s experience.
