Air Quality Assessments/Dispersion Modelling

North Shore uses air quality plume dispersion models to mathematically simulate how air pollutants disperse in the ambient atmosphere. Our team completes these air quality assessments to ensure that ground-level concentrations of pollutants from industrial emission sources are predicted to comply with ambient air quality standards objectives.

North Shore completes these assessments with AERSCREEN, AERMOD and CALPUFF in accordance with Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan model/modelling standards and guidelines.

Ambient Air Monitoring

North Shore is a proven expert in designing and implementing efficient and cost-effective ambient air monitoring programs in accordance with Alberta and Saskatchewan monitoring requirements. From facility ambient monitoring, to nuisance response monitoring, North Shore has the capability to design and implement programs with multiple pollutants and meteorological parameters.

Our team of experts will liaise with third parties to provide clients with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and trained personnel, balancing low-cost and technical needs.

Continuous Emissions Monitoring System Quality Assurance Plans

The Alberta Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) Code requires that all facilities with a CEMS system have a Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) that details appropriate quality control procedures to ensure data quality.

North Shore provides professional services that adhere to the latest CEMS Code, including but are not limited to:

  • Creation of QAPs that are functional and understandable; adapted specifically for each system
  • Updates and modifications to existing QAPs, due to outdated information or ineffective format
  • Designing custom procedures and methodology that meet the requirement of the CEMS code
  • System and document review

Continuous Emissions Monitoring System Audits

The Alberta Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) Code requires that the CEMS system and Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) be evaluated every twelve months. The auditor must be knowledgeable in auditing procedures and in CEMS operations, and independent of the CEMS operation, must review the QAP, the CEMS operations, reports, and other associated records to determine if the procedures in the QAP are being followed.

North Shore has more than a decade of experience in CEMS code audits, performing site inspections, conducting personnel interviews, and developing Audit Finding consultation reports. North Shore will also work with clients to make modifications outside of CEMS code requirements in order to improve the effectiveness of the Quality System.

Air Monitoring Directive Quality Assurance Plans

The Alberta Air Monitoring Directive (AMD) requires facilities to have a Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) as part of a comprehensive Quality System to ensure that monitoring and reporting procedures are verified and documented, so that uncertainties in the reported data are known and can be controlled. North Shore provides professional services that adhere to the latest AMD that include but are not limited to:

  • Creation of QAPs that are functional and understandable; adapted specifically for each system
  • Updates and modifications to existing QAPs, due to outdated information or ineffective format
  • Designing custom procedures to ensure compliance with the AMD
  • System and document review

Air Monitoring Directive Quality System Audits

Chapter 5 of the Alberta Air Monitoring Directive (AMD) requires a full Quality System audit to be completed once every three years at a minimum. The AMD states that audits need to be carried out by someone who is independent of the activity being audited. A third party auditor is recommended.

Our team is knowledgeable and up-to-date on all changes to the AMD, and is experienced in working with clients to improve the effectiveness of source and air monitoring on-site. North Shore performs audits in accordance with the AMD and provides recommendations for improvements when required. North Shore also works with clients to improve internal procedures to enhance the utility of the QAP with facility personnel.
